Roanoke's Freeda Cathcart hopes 2nd time the charm in House of Delegates bid

ROANOKE, VA -

A Roanoke Democrat hopes the second time is the charm, in her bid for the House of Delegates.

Freeda Cathcart on Thursday, announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the 17th District house of Delegates seat.  Cathcart ran for the same seat two years ago, and lost to Republican Chris Head.  Head has not said whether or not he will run for re-election.

Cathcart received support for her bid from longtime Roanoke State Senator John Edwards, a fellow Democrat.

"Only 18% of the General Assembly is made up of women even though we make up over half of our Commonwealth's population," Cathcart stated.  "Our government will be enriched when more women are working alongside in equal numbers with men to work as legislatures for this great Commonwealth. "

Cathcart used her teaching background to call for the Roanoke region to receive its "fair share" of state money for public schools, and also called for "our fair share" of state money to improve transportation infrastructure to attract jobs to the area.

Another call Cathcart issued was for women to receive equal pay (as men) for equal work.
