Botetourt County accident causes major backups on I81

BOTETOURT COUNTY, VA -

UPDATE 8:30pm

Northbound I-81 in Botetourt County has reopened after being shut down for hours due to a tractor trailer accident.

Virginia State Police say around 5:00pm one tractor trailer slowed down for a car ahead of it - when a second semi rear-ended the truck. The crash forced the second trailer to jackknife into another lane. No one was injured and no other cars were involved.

Two northbound lanes were closed for two hours - causing a 9 mile backup at one point. Both lanes have since reopened.

The truck driver at fault has been charged with reckless driving.
