New mobile version of Lynchburg City Schools website

Getting information about Lynchburg City Schools is now easier with the new mobile version of the school's website.

As a mom on-the-go, Gina Dolan-Sewell is attached to her smart-phone. Now, accessing what's going on with her two twin boys at Dunbar Middle School is easier with Lynchburg's new mobile website.

"Lynchburg City Schools is really ahead of the curve on this one," parent Gina Dolan-Sewell says. "It's the only public school in the region that has a full mobile version. So we are very proud of this."

The man behind developing the technology for the mobile site is Lynchburg City School Web Master Scott Kirkwood.

"Trying to do a full version on a phone when everything is tiny can be really difficult," Kirkwood says.

Kirkwood says the number of people using the website on their phone is increasing each year. In October 2011, it was only 8 & of users. In October 2012 it was 20%, and just in February, the school saw that number increase to 25%.

"We knew there were families that don't have internet at home and all they have is their phone," Kirkwood says.

Kirkwood says only a few districts have a web master, which makes it difficult for more schools to have this type of technology.
