Two companies in our area announce layoffs this week.
According to the Virginia Employment Commission - Timber Truss Housing Systems Inc. in Salem is laying off 50 employees this week. Precision Fabrics Group Inc. is laying off 30 employees at their plant in Vinton.
Plant manager Mike Maust says in a statement "our military business has seen five straight quarters of double digit decline ... And that is what has prompted our very difficult decision to adjust our staff level that will affect 30 associates".
After closing earlier this year, four local men decided to buy the Radford theater. They are investing thousands of dollars in renovations and expect to finish the project in mid-June.

The Roanoke County Police Department is currently investigating a missing juvenile report. Alexandria Renee' Smauldon was last seen at her home in South County on Tuesday, May 21 around noon.
