Roanoke Valley Head Start programs protest sequester cuts

Posted: Updated:

Roanoke Valley TAP Head Start supporters held a "stroll-in" at Congressman Bob Goodlatte's office in downtown Roanoke Friday morning.

TAP Headstart says because of sequester cuts its funding will be cut 5%, between $450,000- $500,000, starting May 1, 2013 through April 30, 2014

"We are evaluating money saving options. We are trying to make cuts that will not affect the quality of education and care we provide to our children" said Kimberly Caldwell, TAP's chief financial officer.

The National Head Start Association encouraged people across the country to voice their concerns to local Congressman across the country.

Parents and people who work at Head Start held signs outside and then shared their concerns with Goodlatte's chief of staff Pete Larkin. He said he will pass along their concerns to Congressman Goodlatte.
