Roanoke Valley schools hold first student Relay for Life

Posted: Updated:

Nearly a dozen Roanoke Valley schools came together on Saturday for the first ever student "Relay for Life" at the Cave Spring Middle School track.

There was plenty of music, Zumba, and games.

More than 30 teams signed up to participate.

Around 200 people raised more than $12,000 for cancer research and prevention.

Kendall Bayne, a Cave Spring High School student battling a rare form of cancer, was at Saturday's walk.

"I am so impressed with the turnout, and like I said, to them, they think they're just walking a track right now, but to me that's like money coming in to help find a cure and stuff," stated Bayne.  "And it just means so much just like to stand and look around at all the people who want to help someone like me."
