Wythe County brush fire blamed on trash burning

Posted: Updated:

Wythe County firefighters blame people burning trash for a brush fire that scorched more than a dozen acres on Saturday.

According to the chief of the Ivanhoe Volunteer Fire Department, multiple Wythe County fire crews had to be called to fight the fire off of Fox Den Road, in the Speedwell area of the county (South of Wytheville).

The chief said people were burning trash around 2 p.m., and caused the fire.

The fire was contained by 6 p.m.  Luckily, no homes were damaged.
