HENRY COUNTY, VA -
An abandoned dog named "Rumor" faces a long road to recovery, after being rescued by Henry County Animal Control.
The Martinsville-Henry County SPCA tells WSLS that an anonymous tip led to Rumor's location. Officers found the three-year-old terrier mix emaciated, with no food or water, and only a dilapidated dog house for shelter. Rumor's rib cage, spinal column, and pates of her skull were visible when Animal Control found her.
The SPCA says Rumor's owner has since pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.
As for Rumor's recovery, the SPCA says she is in good spirits, but the damage is great. Ulcers are deep in Rumor's body, and will take a long time to heal.
The SPCA says it is giving Rumor plenty of food, medical attention, and the love she deserves. SPCA workers describe Rumor's eyes lighting up whenever she feels a person's gentle touch.
The SPCA's Angel Fund helps care for mistreated pets.
"Taking care of our animals is a whole
community job. It takes all of us to ensure they're well taken care of,"
explained Leslie Hervey executive director of the SPCA of Martinsville-Henry
County, in an e-mail.
