Raleigh Police are confirming that two people were killed in a two-car accident Sunday afternoon near the corner of Wade Avenue and Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh.
One other person was injured in the wreck, which happened shortly after 1 p.m. He was being treated at WakeMed.
One car, driven by Ray Norman Rouse IV of Raleigh, was going the wrong way on Wade Avenue and struck a car driven by Ormond Jackson Bailey of Raleigh. Rouse struck Bailey head-on. Rouse was estimated to be driving 40 miles per hour.
Bailey 83, was killed. Gaynell Batton Bailey, 79, who was riding with Ormond Jackson Bailey, also died as a result of the accident.
Police said Rouse, 34, will be charged with driving while intoxicated and driving the wrong way.
Both cars are totaled.
Neighbors told WNCN there are often accidents in that stretch, especially when it rains and roads are slick.
