The Science Museum of Western Virginia needs money to upgrade its planetarium.
Executive Director Jim Rollings told Roanoke City Council this afternoon that it'll take $576,000 to revamp the planetarium.
Rollings said the museum needed to raise $265,000 alone to purchase a new digital projection system.
He said much of the old style technical system the planetarium has right now dates back to when it opened in 1983.
Council members decided to consider Rollings request later.
Mayor David Bowers also asked him for more information on the number of people who visited the planetarium when it was open.
Rollings said city council has lots to consider when it comes to funding requests from organizations such as museums.
