The Liberty Flames are perhaps the most unlikely of NCAA teams, but every year there certainly can be a Cinderella story, and Liberty fits the bill. The Flames opened the year 0-8, won a game..then lost two more. They lost a pair of players from the program, and their second leading scorer and rebounder from a year ago didn't play at all. Nonetheless, the Flames regrouped in time for a four wins in a six day stretch Conference tournament that left them as Big South Champions.

Tonight they go into action against North Carolina A & T in "First Four" action of the NCAA tournament. It is the Flames third career trip to the Big Dance. Liberty Coach Dale Layer says anyone who wants to minimize what his team has accomplished should ask themselves;;"What have you overcome." ....because his team has overcome so much this season.  Liberty is the second team in NCAA history to make the tournament with 20 losses. Liberty is 15-20. NC A & T is 19-16 coming in, the champs of the MEAC.
