Pallet Company fire in Bedford

Posted: Updated:
BEDFORD COUNTY -

7:59 a.m. Update: Centerville Road has reopened.

7:25 a.m. Update: According to Bedford Fire Chief Brad Creasy, when fire crews first arrived on the scene around 4:45 a.m., they found a 40 by 75 foot building at Central Virginia Pallet Company fully engulfed.

Crews were able to keep it from spreading to other buildings on the property. However, because there's a lot of tall grass and brush in the immediate area, it sparked a few spot fires. One grew to be a couple acres.

The fires are all put out. Both the Forest Fire Department and the Big Island Fire Department were brought in to assist. A fire investigator is on the scene now to figure out the cause. No official estimate on the damage, but it will likely be at least $50,000.

6:45 a.m. Update: Centerville Road is closed.

5:00 a.m.: Firefighters are on the scene of a fire in Bedford County right now.

A viewer texted me these pictures just before 5 this morning. It's happening at Central Virginia Pallet Company. Bedford Fire tweeted it was answering the call. It says, "one building is heavily involved, multiple debris and brush fires, tanker task force has been requested."

The company is on Centerville Road behind Liberty High School. We have a crew on the way.
