Roanoke Regional Airport's $4 million renovations set to be done by July

ROANOKE, VA -

The $4 million renovation project to the Roanoke Regional Airport are halfway finished.

Between taking off your shoes, to the full body scanner, traveling can be stressful.

Roanoke Regional Airport hopes to eliminate some of that inconvenience with the new renovations.

"We wanted to have the right type of look and truly be the right type of gateway the community wants," Jacqueline Shuck, Roanoke Regional Airport Executive Director, says.

One of the changes is already a big hit. Travelers are swarming to the new charging dock stations. Traveler Cyndi Padgham says she flies through Roanoke all the time and hated not being able to charge her i-Pad. She says she's glad her hometown is getting on board when it comes to technology.

"It's nice to see it up and coming and getting bigger and it's on the map so to speak," traveler, Cyndi Padgham, says.

"You don't want the impression of being old and out of date," Shuck says. "We want to be up to date. We want to be modern. We want to meet the needs of our current passengers and sometimes you have to look toward the future and not just the past."

The airport is pushing forward to keep it's self current. The seven new bathrooms, two new escalators, and completely re-done gates are expected to be finished by July.
