New Memory Disorder Center to open in St. Petersburg

Posted: Updated:
ST PETERSBURG -

St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg is planning to open a Memory Disorder Center.

The hospital is already on the forefront of advanced screening to diagnose and treat disorders like Alzheimer's and Dementia in its early stages.

"The goal of St. Anthony's Memory Disorders Center is planned to focus on patients experiencing neurological issues and the families of those patients. Through education and support, our mission will be to help patients and their families have the resources they need for the best quality of life possible," said Bill Ulbricht, President, St. Anthony's Hospital.

News Channel 8's Gayle Guyardo visited the hospital and learned early intervention and diagnosis is critical.

"Then from that diagnosis - we can slow the progression of the illness with the correct treatment plan and medications.", said Dr. Veronica L Clement,  a clinical  neuropsychologist, at St. Anthony's Hospital in downtown St. Petersburg.

Doctors hope this will help keep an aging population from needing nursing home care. There is a major fundraiser planned around the St. Petersburg Honda Grand Prix to raise awareness and funds for the new Memory Disorder Center. Here is a link for ticket information:
