Snow moves in for Sunday and Monday

A storm system will bring rain and snow to the region Sunday into Monday.

The storm will start to spread rain into the region Sunday morning between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m.  This rain could be mixed with sleet.

Through the day, many will see a cold rain continue.  As winds start to turn around to the north, cold air will move in changing the rain to snow.

Most of the snow will taper off between 3 and 7 a.m., but another little round of snow shower activity could move back in Monday afternoon.

Right now, snowfall will be lightest in the south with up to one inch expected.  For the New River Valley, Roanoke and Lynchburg, one to four inches of snow is expected.  The highest snowfall totals will along and north of Interstate 64 with four to seven inches possible.

There is still a little discrepancy with the computer models, which could bring changes to the forecast.  If the storm moves a bit northward, less snow would be expected, but if the storm moves southward, cold air will arrive faster bringing a bit more snow.
