New Roanoke business uses technology to more accurately diagnosis ADHD

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE, VA -

A new business in our area is using technology to improve the accuracy of diagnosing Attention Deficit Hyper-Activity Disorder.

A recent study shows the number of kids with ADHD is increasing with a jump of nearly 25% in the last decade.

After 18 years of being a licensed school psychologist in Roanoke, Andrea Foutz says she can now do her job more accurately.

"It's much quicker and more efficient and more valuable," psychologist Andrea Foutz says.

Foutz is talking about 'Defini-Point.' A new online-tool to better assess children or adults for ADHD.

"It sends out reminders and I know exactly when they completed the evaluations," Foutz says. so "It's just a few clicks and I have the results."

For a child, parent, and teachers to all fill out the test by hand, the diagnosis usually takes 3 to 4 weeks. If they fill it out with 'Defini-Point' online, it usually takes 3 to 4 days.

"The technology is fairly sophisticated, but at the end of the day users need something its easy simple and convenient for and assessment," CEO and Founder of Attention Point, Sam English says.

Sam English, a Roanoke entrepreneur is behind the kick-start business 'Attention Point,' which produces 'Defini-Point' the technology making it easier for psychologists across the state to do their job by giving them access to testing online.

The test can also be easily sent to parents or teachers something English says helps make the diagnosis more accurate.

"When we take information from multiple parents and teachers the ability for clinicians to more accurately predict ADHD improves," English says.

English plans to take Defini-Point nationwide by the end of the summer and hopes to make a big difference when it comes to accurate treat our children.
