Storm damage in Pasco, Hernando counties

Posted: Updated:
PASCO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Two counties need a clean up after wicked storms ripped through the Bay Area Sunday evening, causing widespread damage.

Hernando and Pasco counties had the most severe damage. High winds downed trees and power lines, and ripped the roofs of several buildings there. Wires that fell on U.S. 41 forced crews to close the road while they cleared up the mess.  There were also several reports of quarter-sized hail in places like Hudson.

Dave Hink has lived in the Trilby area of Pasco County for more than two decades, but he's never seen anything like this.  Hink says he watched as the winds peeled his neighbor's roofs away.

"The winds got really loud so we looked out and it was like white out. And after that it was hail, and we heard a large crunching noise and obviously that was the roof of the barn," said Trilby.  "If this wasn't a tornado, I don't know what was."

Donna Collins, who lives in Hernando county, said it was "freaky."

"Tin flying everywhere. Was on my car, my husband's truck...." she said. "And all of a sudden we started hearing a loud whipping noise and I look out and see all the tin blowing everywhere, tree down."

There have been no confirmed reports of tornados from Sunday's storms.  Despite all the reports of flying debris, there have been no reported injuries either.

There have been several reported power outages.  According to Progress Energy, most of their customers have had service restored, as of 10:00 p.m. Sunday night.  TECO's website shows about 38 customers without power in the Pasco/Hernando County area Monday morning.
