Bedford County community hit hard by snowstorm

Posted: Updated:
BEDFORD COUNTY, VA -

From tree tops to car tops, the snow kept falling. VDOT crews worked throughout the day to clear the roads here in Bedford County, one of the hardest hit areas by this storm.

"VDOT's done a great job so far. They've hung in there it hasn't got too bad. I've seen them come up and down the road probably 3 or 4 times this morning," said Thomas Harp.

While Harp does not mind this dose of springtime snow, he and his wife Sarah recently opened a convenience store and tackle shop in the Hardy community, in addition to their boat repair business.

"It's crazy, yesterday I sold probably 30 or 40 dozen minnows before 12 p.m. and even after that people were coming in left and right," said Harp.

But because of rough road conditions throughout the day, business at the new shop was at a standstill.

"We want to get things off the ground. we want to get people in here to buy some minnows and sodas on their way to the lake," said Harp's wife Sarah.

"Hoping it'll melt soon though spring is coming. I want to get these boats underway and get people ready for fishing and all the fun their going to have," said Harp.

So while nearly a half a foot of snow blanketed this Bedford County community, this family knows warmer days are ahead.
