IRS giving relief for some late tax returns

Posted: Updated:

For some people tax season may end up being even more of a headache than normal.

Since Congress delayed passing the 2012 American Taxpayer Act until the last minute, several key items like the depreciation tax form and education credit form weren't sent out until earlier this month.

Roanoke Certified Public Accountant Patrick Budd said that compresses tax season from several months to six weeks, potentially causing problems.

"One of the real big problems is when you try to do that and cram everything into that period of time," Budd said. "It makes a prime opportunity for making mistakes on returns."

The IRS is allowing for extensions because the forms were sent late.

If you get a late notice because of these forms Budd suggests contacting the IRS directly.
