Hundreds of runners took their marks at the Martinsville Half Marathon Saturday to make a difference in the community.
Some of the runners train at the Y and have witnessed firsthand the impact the YMCA has had in this community.
The $10,000 raised through the half marathon and 5K will go toward helping people pay to be a member.
YMCA CEO, Brad Kinkema says the best part of his job is watching people turn their health around. He told us the story of one woman in particular.
"She said that she needed to exercise, but she couldn't afford a Y membership, she was significantly overweight and she's been working out for about 6 months now and she's lost 90 pounds, gotten off all her medications and some of her health issues like high blood pressure have gone away," said Kinkema.
I ran in Saturday's half marathon and clocked a time of 2 hours and 16 minutes.
