In What's News Today:

The Supreme Court will hear arguments in Hollingsworth V. Perry today. It's a case considering the constitutionality of California's gay marriage ban, Proposition 8. It has the potential to be truly monumental, as the court could rule on the fundamental issue of whether same-sex couples have a constitutionally protected right to get married.

Blacksburg Town Council will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. where, among other agenda items, they'll discuss the rezoning application for Old Blacksburg Middle School property. After nearly two years of deliberations, the rezoning request by Fiddlers Green Partners, LLC and Modea is expected to be filed. The meeting will take place at the Municipal Building.

Diabetes Alert Day is today. It's scheduled this time every year as a "wake up call" sponsored by the American Diabetes Association to urge Americans to find out if they are at risk for developing diabetes, particularly type 2 which is the most common form of the disease.

Local cub scouts will take part in a model aviation experience at the Montgomery County Model Airplane Club at the Tech SportsPlex in Christiansburg tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.. They'll get hands-on flight simulator training and take part in demonstrations.

A grand opening and ribbon cutting will take place this morning for Roanoke Resource, a Roanoke business focused on supporting mental health and reducing homelessness. It's at 10 a.m. today at the office on Day Avenue.

NBC Universal and its parent company, Comcast are taking part in job fairs for veterans today. The Hiring our Heroes job fairs are taking place this afternoon in Los Angeles and Dayton, Ohio where the companies are looking to hire another thousand veterans after already reaching its initial 1,000 hires goal.
