NELSON COUNTY, VA -

Virginia State Police are investigating a weekend crash that killed a five-year-old boy in Nelson County.

According to Trooper R. Sachno III, a 1994 Saturn SL was driving east on Route 665 around 8:23 p.m. on Sunday, March 24th.  The driver lost control less than a mile east of the road's intersection with Route 29.  The car then ran off the left side of the road, hit a tree, then flipped into a creek.

EMTs took five-year-old Jeremiah C. Clark, of Nellysford, the driver, 18-year-old Mercedes Toliver-Carrington, of Amherst, and three other passengers to UVA Medical Center.

State Police say Clark died from his injuries on Monday.

Trooper Sachno found everyone in the car was wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
