The Henry County Sheriff's Office says the death of a man at Philpott Lake this past weekend, has been ruled an accident.
On Saturday, March 23rd, a deputy found John Madins body near boat ramp #1.
The Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy on Monday, March 25th, and found Madins suffered a blow to his head, and drowned.
The sheriff's office investigators determined that Madins was walking on a steep trail, near the water's edge, and fell into the water. Deputies say the ground showed evidence of movement, from the edge of the lake to the trail. Also, deputies found a number of rocks in the shallow water where Madins was found.
The investigation found no evidence that the blow to Madins' head took place while he was on the trail.
Family members told investigators that Madins had a history of stability problems, that led to a number of falls in his past.
