Goodwill opens new store, job center in Lynchburg area

LYNCHBURG -

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys is celebrating the grand opening of a new store and job center in the Lynchburg area as it works to expand its services to people in that region.

The organization will hold the official tie cutting (it's a Goodwill tradition to cut a tie instead of a ribbon) for its new store, located at 3213 Forest Brook, at 8:45am Wednesday.

The first 200 people who walk into the store will receive a free tote bag. One lucky shopper will walk away with a brand new 39 inch flat screen TV.

This is Goodwill's third store in the Lynchburg area.

"We are very excited to open a new store in Lynchburg," said Lucie Touchton, spokesperson for Goodwill. "We're expanding a lot in that area. The community has been great in supporting Goodwill."

Goodwill's new job center in Madison Heights is a first for the Lynchburg region and will give people in the area access to services they've never had before -- things like job training courses for youth, adults, and seniors.

The job center is located in the River James Shopping Center next to Lowe's.

Goodwill will host an open house there Wednesday from 11:00am - 2:00pm during which visitors can take tours and learn more about the services it provides.

Before it opened, the job center already provided a boost to the economy. It's in a building that had been vacant for a decade and Goodwill created 16 new jobs to staff it.
