Court records: Salem man illegally taped underage volleyball players

Posted: Updated:
SALEM, VA -

Court records claim a Salem man illegally taped several underage girls, volleyball players police say he coached.

Salem police charged Dewayne Barger with several counts of child pornography.

Police said someone found a "covert pen camera" hidden inside Barger's bathroom at Salem's Riverwalk apartments.

A search warrant for Barger's apartment reads that he was the assistant director of a youth volleyball team.

It claims Barger taped several underage girls, volleyball players, changing clothes and bathing in his bathroom.

In a text message, the president of Next Revolution in Volleyball, a non-profit developmental team for girls under 18, said she fired Barger after finding out about the police investigation.

The president wrote in another text message that the team is "cooperating fully" with the investigation.

Barger was also a volunteer coach for the Salem High School volleyball team from 2006 to 2011, and a junior varsity coach for a few weeks last year at Eastern Montgomery High School.

Barger is still in jail.

His next court appearance is scheduled for May 13th.
