Wine Wednesday: It's All About Bein' Sweet

Tonight at Wine Gourmet they're pouring a set of wines that have "Easter" in common.  That is, each would do beautifully as the dinner wine on most Easter tables. That tasting, as always on Wine Wednesdays, runs from 5-7:30 pm and is everyone's favorite price, FREE. Plus, if you're  in the mood for a little something special for your Wednesday night dinner, the good folks of Bruno's GastroPub from Bernard's Landing down at Smith Mountain Lake will be at Wine Gourmet  serving their superb Pub Grub from the window of the GastroTruck.

To open and enjoy on-air:

1.)  Josef Drathen Auslese [ow-slay-zah] Riesling
This is a late-harvest Riesling. The grapes, individual grapes, are hand-picked from bunches still on the vine and the resulting wine is rich, sweet, and surprisingly complex. In the glass you'll find flavors of apricot, tangerine, apple, and honey and a drink so rewarding you'll be inspired to write love letters – just be sure to not mix them up when you send them.
Why such a good wine for Easter? Among the dishes that pair so well with auslese rieslings are ham, strawberries and desserts of almost any stripe.

2
.)  Laetitia [lie-ay-TEE-sha] Pinot Noir
From the Central Coast area of California, we have this beautiful pinot noir that's a blend (Send in the clones!) of 10 different pinot noir clones. The winemaker has crafted an elegant, supple pinot with notes of black cherry, strawberry, and caramel. It's a perfect fit for the Easter table because it so mind-bogglingly food friendly. Enjoy with lamb, pork, beef, chicken, salmon, etc., etc., etc.
Stop by tonight and taste them each for yourself.
