Roanoke-Blacksburg Tech Council gives big boost to local businesses

ROANOKE, VA -

The Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council is playing an important role in helping local businesses grow with their TechNite Awards.

Starting a company from the ground up can be a challenge. That's why Jay Foster, president of Soft Solutions in Roanoke, says there's a crucial contact every technology company in the region needs to make.

"The opportunity we landed in the fall with the enterprise deal to expand our software across the United states, to 55 sites, would not have happened without the relationship we have with the RBTC," Jay Foster, President of Soft Solutions, says.

Foster is talking about the Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council. His company won the 'Regional Leadership' award at the council's TechNite.

It's an event highlighting companies in the area through categories like: Rising Star, Innovation, Educator, and Entrepreneur of the Year.

"It definitely raises the credibility of the company. When they want to elect you, they want to make sure they are working with a reputable company," Foster says. "So, these kind of awards really help build that kind of credibility."

"These business are changing our economic climate in a drastic way,' RBTC Executive Director, Derick Maggard says. "We want to make sure we give them the accolades they so desperately deserve."

Derick Maggard, the RBTC's Executive Director, says the recognition from the awards gives business leaders the opportunity to connect with people they may not have known otherwise.

"One of the main mission of the RBTC is to raise the profile of our technology companies here in this region and nationally and internationally and tech night is a fantastic platform," Maggard says.

Foster says without the RBTC he would have never met, Tracy Wilkins, the investor for his company.

Submit your TechNite nominations here. The nominations are due by Friday.
