Roanoke's Easter Egg Hunt collects 10,000 extra eggs

ROANOKE -

Roanoke's Easter Egg Hunt is a little more than 24 hours away and there will be no shortage of eggs this year.

The Salvation Army and the Southeast Roanoke Christian Partnership asked the community to donate 20,000 Easter eggs with candy inside.

They surpassed that goal quickly collecting 30,000.

Organizers say it's a sign people truly care about the children of the Roanoke Valley.

"I think it shows the heart of the community," said Salvation Army Captain Amy Argot. "It shows that there are people that care about our children not only at Christmas but also during other events within the year."

The Easter egg hunt kicks off Saturday at noon at Jackson Park in Roanoke.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.
