GARNER, N.C. -

A double-shooting Friday shook up a quiet rural community just south of Garner on Friday as Wake County Sheriff's Office responded to an apparent murder-suicide on Fieldstream Farm Road.

Authorities identified the deceased as Kyle Christopher Miller, 25, of Garner and Jennifer Callaghan.

Neighbor David Williams said he heard several gun shots while jogging Friday morning.

"I  heard about four or five shots in rapid succession and then probably 20 seconds later I heard just one shot," he said.

Authorities say they got a call about a shooting around 10 a.m. Friday. When deputies arrived to the scene they found a man lying in the yard dead. When they went inside the house they found a woman who was also dead.

Authorities said it appears the shooting happened in 1309 Fieldstream Farm Rd and went to 1308.

According to the family, the man and woman were boyfriend and girlfriend. The sister of the deceased male says she is shocked and doesn't know why this happened.

"It's just sad that something like this happens on a holiday weekend," said Williams.

Another neighbor, John Grass, said the event was shocking.

"Occasionally we do hear gun shots in the area but we really don't think a whole lot of it," Grass said. "My wife asked if it was hunting season and I said no, the only thing possibly is turkey - nothing else."
