Some people think of drinking in a social setting, but alcohol can be destructive and so can drug addiction.
Myth: People who are addicted to drugs or alcohol are weak.
Carilion Clinic Psychiatrist, Dr. William Rea explains, "There is strong biological evidence that their brains are a little different than other people. They are more vulnerable to alcohol or drugs and unless they approach the problem in very specific ways it can be devastating for their entire lives."
Drug and Alcohol Addiction Facts:
* One of the most treatable forms of mental illness
* 7-8 times to quit
* Don't give up
Dr. Rea says, "Of all people with alcohol and drug problems seventy percent will eventually go into complete recovery, that is better than people with asthma."
When it comes to saying no to addiction, don't be afraid to ask for help.
