Dog bites finger off 11-year-old Bradenton boy

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A Bradenton man shot and killed a dog after it bit off his son's finger Friday night, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The 11-year-old the boy stuck his left hand through slots in a cage to pet the dog when the dog bit him, severing the pinky and possibly breaking the boy's forearm, deputies said.

The father removed the dog from the cage and shot it multiple times, killing it, deputies said. He then removed the severed finger from the dog's stomach while waiting for emergency officials.

The child was flown to All Children's Hospital.

Manatee County Animal Control department took possession of the dog's remains.
