RUSKIN, FL (WFLA) -

Officials with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue say a brush fire in Ruskin that burned much of the day is now fully contained.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue units first responded to a report of a brush fire in the area of 27th Street SE & 21st Ave SE in Ruskin just before noon Saturday.

Upon arrival, fire crews confirmed that a large brush fire was threatening nearby homes and properties.  There were about 5 acres involved initially. The brush area was very dry and wind conditions were high, said fire officials.

The fire burned down one unoccupied mobile home and an old carnival trailer.  Robert Phillips Sr. owns that property and is thankful the fire didn't spread any more quickly.  "I'm just happy that no one lost their homes or anything over there."  Phillips said.  " It's kind of sad that we lost stuff, but from time to time we have losses all the time of one type or another with thieves or criminals it's just another loss. "

Forestry officials estimated that a total of 30 plus acres were involved in this brush fire. There were no reports of injuries.  Ronnie Rivera with Hillsborough Fire Rescue, says the winds and dry conditions are the perfect combination for a large brush fire such as this one.  "It's so dry, everything is so dry because of the cold weather." Rivera said.  "And we're definitely in the brush fire season. "

At this time the fire is under control. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews spent the afternoon hitting all the hot spots and preventing the fire from spreading.
