ABERDEEN, N.C. -

A single vehicle accident in Aberdeen claimed the life of a volunteer firefighter Friday.

According to the PineHill Fire Department, Sarah Stonesifer died after being involved in an accident on Stubby Oaks Road just before 7 p.m. on Friday. Stonesifer was returning to the fire station to meet other local volunteer firefighters for dinner when the accident occurred.

The Highway Patrol said that speed and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors to the crash. Stonesifer died when she was ejected from her Chevrolet Blazer as it flipped during the crash. Troopers said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

The accident occurred less than a mile from Stonesifer's home.

Matt Smith, Stonesifer's boyfriend, was first on the scene of the accident. Smith is also a volunteer firefighter with the PineHill FD.

Stonesifer started as a volunteer firefighter two months ago.

PineHill Fire Department Captain John Campbell posted a statement on Facebook:

"RIP Sarah Stonesifer. Your going to be deeply missed. Can't believe this happened. It's hard to believe. It's gonna be hard being at the station now. Your spirit will always be with each one of us at PineHill FD an u will always be remembered an never forgotten."

Tommy Nelson is the Chief of Pinehill Fire Department in Aberdeen, where Sarah Stonesifer had been volunteering as a firefighter for two months. "Super sweet, nice girl. Quiet, just an old country girl" said Nelson. He said she was one of the guys, beloved and adored.

For her fulltime job, Stonesifer worked at the Southern Pines Animal Health Center and her managers said she was a very hard worker.

Russell Tate Jr was Sarah's boss, and said she was a joy to work with. "Sunshine is the word that comes to mind. Sunshine."

Stonesifer's visitation is this Monday at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and then again 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Boles Funeral Home located at 425 W. Pennsylvania Avenue, Southern Pines.

The burial will be at Bethesda Funeral Home in Aberdeen. The burial will be a ceremony traditional for a fallen firefighter.
