Lakeland deacon arrested for lewd molestation of 14-year-old

LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) -

Lakeland Police have arrested 59-year-old Melvin Risher of Lakeland for Lewd Molestation of a 14-year-old female.  

Risher is a Deacon with the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, where he met the victim and her family.

Police say they were contacted by the victim's mother after she discovered her daughter had been inappropriately touched by Risher on March 17.  The victim and her mother, who were not identified, reported to police that they knew Risher.

Risher was interviewed at the Lakeland Police Department on March 28.  Based on information from the investigation, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was taken into custody on April 1 without incident, and transported to the Polk County jail where he is currently being held.

Risher has been charged with 2 counts of Lewd Molestation, Victim age 12 to 16.
