Bradenton police recommend charges for HS football coach

Posted: Updated:
BRADENTON, FL (WFLA) -

Bradenton police are recommending criminal charges against a Manatee High school football coach.

The department recently learned of allegations involving a student and assistant coach Rod Frazier.

The case has now been turned over to the state attorney's office.

Frazier's attorney says this case is bogus.

This investigation all started when a local paper first reported these allegations. Frazier's attorney feels the alleged victim had some sort of vendetta against the school.

But the police chief said his officers did a thorough investigation, and gave it to the State Attorney's office for review.

On February 7th, the Bradenton police department began investigating Manatee High Assistant Football coach Rod Frazier.

This probe began after a newspaper published a report alleging improper activity with a student.

Police interviewed around 50 teachers, students and administrators, and then the case was forwarded to the State Attorney's office with recommended charges.

Bradenton police chief Mike Radzilowski would not go on camera, but he said the department suggested Frazier be charged with battery. There were also charges for other school officials, but he would not elaborate.

Frazier's attorney Eddie Mulock said, "There will never be one iota of evidence about him having sexual involvement or contact with any girl in this case."

Mulock researched the alleged victim and feels she may be trying to undermine the school.

"She hates Manatee High school," he said. "When I start getting people under oath and I can sit across that table in front of them, things will look entirely different, I'm telling ya."

Mulock feels the investigation was not properly handled.

No one has been arrested at this time. In a statement Manatee County school district superintendent Rick Mills said: "The school district's highest priority is the safety and security of our students and employees."

Mills added: "We hope that the community will join us in reserving final judgment until all facts are revealed. If charges are eventually brought against any of our personnel, the District will take appropriate action which may include placing employees on administrative leave while the matter is processed through the judicial system."

The State Attorney's office would not comment on the case since no arrests were made. Assistant State Attorney Dawn Buff said based on her office's review of each case, charges could be upgraded or downgraded.

And at this time, we don't know if or when it will go to trial.
