Numbers recently released from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics show an increase in jobs for the Roanoke Region.
Last year, Roanoke added 2,200 jobs. That is more than 1,000 jobs compared to 2011.
The increases are seen in mostly the fields of health care, transportation, and business services.
The recent increase in urgent care centers in the region may have contributed to those numbers. Staffing levels at Doctors Express in Roanoke have more than doubled, from 8 in 2011, to 20 this year. They say health care is almost recession-proof, because people will eventually get sick.
