Tomorrow night at Wine Gourmet, that's Thursday April 4th, they've got California Winemaker Peter Franus. Those of us old enough to remember his monster-hit double-live album back in the seventies will be thrilled . . . .
. . .Oops. Wait a minute. I'm sorry. That was Peter Frampton.
Anyway, Peter Franus will be in-store and pouring out his fabulously well-made wines. This is Peter's opportunity to "show you the way" he has with the grape, making small-batch quantities of wine, each with distinctive personalities.
Please do not open.
1.) Peter Franus, Brandlin Vineyards, Zinfandel
It pours a blood-dark ruby hue with brilliant highlights. Classic aromas of strawberry, cinnamon, bay leaf, mineral and earth fairly roar out of the glass. Tip the glass for a sip and the soft tannins and lively acidity wake up the palate, while the captivating aromas of a moment before are turned loose as rich flavors, all accentuated by vanilla and toasty-oak overtones. It's a scrum of scrumptiousness in your mouth. Try it for free Thursday night.
$44.99/btl – and worth every penny.
2.) Peter Franus Sauvignon Blanc
Depending on where it is grown, sauvignon blanc can be a bit of a chameleon. From Bordeaux the wine can have a soft, grassy character, from New Zealand it can be in-your-face with lively grapefruit and lime flavors. This refreshing California version blancs evokes the great sauvignon blancs of France's Loire Valley offering pure and vibrant flavors of passion fruit, gooseberry, ginger, citrus, and pear. It is an exercise in balance with appropriate acidity giving it liveliness and minerality adding edginess and structure. – Also open on Thursday.
a scant $21.99/btl
