The theme for National Public Health Awareness week is Save Lives, Save Money. Different locations across Virginia are offering different ideas for people in the community to learn how to live healthier lives.
In Roanoke, Jefferson College of Health Sciences participated in the awareness program by featuring different displays this afternoon. The goal of this program and J.C.H.S. is to help prevent disease and illness in order to make a difference.
Diana Willeman, J.C.H.S. Associate Professor says, "Each person can take a small step to improve their health each day, picking a healthier snack, going for a ten minute walk or even checking to make sure that smoke detector to make sure they are working properly."
This is the third year J.C.H.S. has taken part in the event as part of their Principles in Public Health class. The college will offer a minor in public health this fall.
