Tribute artists benefit to provide Virginia Tech scholarship

BLACKSBURG, VA -

When Wynonah Dove gets dolled up like Dolly, it's hard to believe the woman behind the microphone is as shy and plain Jane as she says she is. "I'm a farm girl," the Dolly Parton Impersonator said. "Normally throughout the year I'm farming and hiking and planting and shooting deer. This is really not me here."

For more than 10 years, this singer, songwriter who once sang Appalachian mountain and bluegrass music has been impersonating one of country music's most well known stars. "You have to go away to get those concerts, off to Myrtle Beach, Pigeon Forge, Branson, Atlantic City so we thought we'd bring it here," she said.

Dolly, Elvis, Cher and Tim McGraw impersonators will be in Abingdon for Star Struck The Concert this weekend. It's a benefit to help students from Southwest Virginia get to Virginia Tech. "So many people in Southwest Virginia want to come to Virginia Tech and they don't think they can afford it and they really can't," said Penny McCallum, Director Virginia Tech Southwest Center.

Proceeds will go to the Virginia Tech Southwest Virginia Scholarship Fund while concert goers get a uniquely authentic show. "Everything is very authentic," Dove says with a laugh. "Although like Dolly, I'm thinking there needs to be some nipping, tucking and plucking and lifting going on at my age."

Star Struck The Concert, is Saturday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are $35 each or $270 for a reserved table of eight. Click here to buy tickets.
