Advance Auto Parts names new president

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE, VA -

Advance Auto Parts named a new company president on Thursday.

George Sherman joins the company after most recently serving as senior vice-president for Best Buy Services.  It included leading Best Buy's "Geek Squad."

Advance says Sherman served seven years in the U.S. Air Force, and spent 15 years with Target, working his way up from store manager to senior vice-president.

The move splits the roles of current CEO and president of Advance Auto Parts, Darren Jackson.  The company says Jackson will remain CEO.

Also, Advance eliminate the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO), currently held by Kevin Freeland.
