Smoke evacuates Laurel Elementary School - WSLS 10 NBC in Roanoke/Lynchburg Va

UPDATE: Laurel Elementary School evacuation blamed on electrical problem

CARROLL COUNTY -

3:56 p.m.

Carroll County Sheriff J.B. Gardner tells WSLS that an electrical malfunction in the school's air handling system, caused smoke to pour into the main office.

The smoke has since been cleared, the school aired out, and students were allowed back in, before being dismissed for the day.

1:20 p.m.

Students and staff at Laurel Elementary School in Austinville have been evacuated due to smoke.

The finance supervisor for Carroll County Public School's says, the students have been evacuated to a local rescue squad.

All children are safe.

No word on what has caused the smoke.
