City of Tampa employee arrested on charges of sex with minors

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A City of Tampa employee was in jail Thursday on charges of unlawful sex with a minor, according to a Tampa Police report.

Police told us, they received a tip from the City of Tampa Human Resources Department in March about one of its employees' suspicious behavior. After a successful undercover operation they arrested Demetrio Rivera, 68, of Tampa.

Detectives said, they watched Rivera pick up a 16-year-old girl and bring her to the City of Tampa Woodlands Wastewater Pump Station at 6515 Wood Branch Dr. That's where they arrested him with his pants unfastened.

TPD officers believe Rivera had relationships with three other girls. They told us he became friends with the young girls who had no male role model and took advantage of them.

Rivera's position involved preventative and corrective maintenance at wastewater pumping stations. He started working for the City of Tampa on January 1, 1987.

He is in jail on two counts of unlawful sex with a minor, eight counts of lewd and lascivious behavior, and one count traveling to meet a minor.
