DANVILLE, VA -

A history making NASCAR driver from Danville received a special honor on Friday.

The Commonwealth, NASCAR, and City of Danville took part in the dedication of a historic marker for Wendell Scott.

Scott was the first African-American NASCAR driver to win a Cup series race in the 1960s.

Members of Scott's family helped unveil the marker Friday afternoon.

The marker stands near the home Scott built, after he returned from World War II.
