Spring was in the air and in Downtown Roanoke Saturday as City Market Saturdays kicked off for the season.
Organizers admit this week's weather had them feeling a little nervous heading into Saturday -- but they were happy to get lots of sun, a full slate of farmers and vendors, and a big crowd for the event.
Downtown Roanoke Inc recently repainted all booths in the market and installed new lights on them. They're currently in the process of installing new awnings.
They hope this is the first of many successful Saturdays to come.
"I've met people from Pennsylvania today, Rhode Island, and someone from West Virginia," said Tracie Hughes, Market Manager for Downtown Roanoke Inc. "This is our tourist spot, this is Roanoke's hot spot. And it's just so much fun to come out here and enjoy it."
Beginning May 2nd, DRI will launch a second outdoor market at Rivers Edge Sports Complex.
