ACLU wants Va. county to pay tab for prayer fight

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY -

DANVILLE, Va. (AP) - The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors will discuss its options this week after losing a court battle over prayer.

A federal judge issued an injunction on March 27 barring the board from opening meetings with prayers associated with any one religion.

The decision came in a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of Barbara Hudson.

The Danville Register & Bee (http://bit.ly/Y6yYbA ) reports that the board plans to discuss its options on Tuesday during a closed-door meeting with its attorney in the case, state Sen. Bill Stanley.

The ACLU filed a petition Friday asking the judge to order the board to pay Hudson's legal fees in the case, almost $60,000.

Stanley says the board will challenge the petition.
