Woman injured in bus accident released from Va. hospital

A Chapel Hill woman who was injured in a deadly bus crash in Virginia has been released from a Virginia hospital.

Theresa Watson has been released Sentera Norfolk General Hospital, the hospital said Monday. She is expected to be in a hospital in Chapel Hill.

Her husband, Doval Emmanuel Watson, 58, was killed on the bus when it crashed Friday with six high school students around 7:05 a.m. on U.S. Route 58 in Capron. The bus was on the way to Hampton University for a high school students day.

The driver of the bus, Larry Brocks, 62, of Raleigh, survived and has been charged with reckless driving.

Doval Watson was a former president of the Durham-Chapel Hill chapter of the Hampton University Alumni Association, according to current president Gloria Doyle. She said Watson was also active in the St. Paul AME Church in Chapel Hill.

Four of Watson's six children went to Hampton and he took immense pride in the school in Hampton, Va.

A spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police said the driver lost control of the bus, causing it to run off the road and overturn into a ditch. No other vehicles were involved.
