Virginia Tech's first open scrimmage produced some mixed results on the stat sheet but a seemingly satisfied coaching staff for the first go-round. Coach Beamer says he liked the effort both at the scrimmage and at spring practice as a whole thus far.  The Hokies leading rusher was Trey Edmunds with 29 yards on 7 carries. Michael Holmes added 19 yards on 7 carries. Logan Thomas was just 7-17 for 164 with two interceptions while backup Mark Leal was 11 of 15 for 127 but was sacked six times. On the receiving side, Kevin Asante led the way with 5 catches for 68 yards, while DJ Coles added 3 for 53.  Cody Journell added a pair of field goals during the scrimmage. It was the Hokies defense that shined statistically with 10 sacks and 21 tackles for loss and three inteceptions.  Hokies Spring practice continues this week and the next open scrimmage is Saturday at 10:45.
