Parents of seven children who died in the Sandy Hook shootings and the widower of staffer killed are in the nation's capital today. They'll be pushing for gun control legislation.

Gubernatorial Candidate Terry McAuliffe will be in Roanoke today, touring the Optical Cable Corporation. He's traveling around Virginia to get ideas to make the Commonwealth more attractive to business. McAuliffe will be there at 10:45.

The National Football League will be in a Philadelphia federal court today asking a judge to throw out some 4,200 lawsuits from former players over allegations the league promoted violence in the game and concealed known cognitive risks from concussions and other blows to the head.

More than 700 environmental leaders from across Virginia will be at VMI today for the annual Environment Virginia Symposium, "Charting our Future, New Tools for Complex Challenges." It's going on through Thursday. A keynote address will be given this afternoon at 1 p.m. at Gillis Theater.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg is holding a free storm spotting and weather safety presentation in Galax tonight at 6:00. If you'd like to be a storm spotter, just head to the Crossroads Institute for the presentation.

SpiritHorse of Virginia will have a grand opening for its Salem location this morning at 11. SpiritHorse is a non-profit that offers free therapeutic horseback riding to people with special needs.

If you travel or live near Route 8 in Montgomery County, VDOT is asking for your input. The agency is having its second information meeting for a study on route 8 at the Riner Volunteer Fire Department tonight from 5:00 to 7:00.

Blacksburg Town Council will meet tonight and discuss among other things, expanding outdoor dining. There will be a public hearing at 7:30 in the municipal building over the possibility of allowing outdoor dining for more restaurants.

    According to Roanoke City Police a shooting suspect is at large after one person was shot on the Roanoke River Greenway near the Ramada Inn on Franklin Road. Police say the victim has non-life threatening injuries. The call came in around 8:55.
