Tampa social media expert says to build your brand on Linked In

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

It has two-hundred million users in two hundred countries.  And Linked In has certainly evolved over the years.

It is the world's largest professional network  Two new members join every second.

Deborah Shane is a Tampa area social media expert and she loves Linked In. "You don't want to just put a resume on Linked In. Linked In should be a much more developed personal branding site for your professionalism. What do you want people to know about what you believe in and what you stand for as a professional."

Shane says Linked In has more to offer than ever before and many members are under-utilizing it. "Don't just put bullet points. Don't just list stuff. Tell the story."  Shane says it's an opportunity to really paint a picture of your knowledge, experience and expertise.

Linked In is not the platform for posting vacation pictures.  But it is where you can make great professional connections.  87% of people in a recent survey say they trust Linked In as a source for information which is a much higher number than Facebook or Twitter.

Shane also touts Linked In's content aggregation tool because, she says, it attracts fantastic content from reliable sources. "You can actually customize what content you want to receive and that's what you get in your in box every day."

But there are certain No No's on Linked In.  Shane says "Don't use Linked In to send mass sales emails."  You also don't want to have a profile that is undeveloped and Shane says a picture of yourself is a must.

Linked In's mission is simple: to connect the world's professionals and make them more productive.
