BLACKSBURG, VA -

A southwest Virginia native and Virginia Tech junior has been chosen to represent his school in a big way.

Austin Larrowe will serve as the university's first Presidential Fellow.

Larrowe is one of 72 students across the country selected by the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress.

His research was on international agriculture education as a tool for national security.

"It's really encouraging and it's a great honor. Anytime I have the opportunity to represent Virginia Tech, I take it very seriously. Being the first here at Virginia Tech, I've had the opportunity to talk to a lot of people who are applying for it this coming year and that's been really cool to see how its going to carry on," said Larrowe.

The 21-year-old is from Carroll County and the son of county administrator Gary Larrowe.
